Diglett -- Pokemon X and Y Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Diglett from the X and Y Pokemon Card Set.  Diglett is a basic, fighting type Pokemon card with an hp of 50.  It has a x2 weakness to grass type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a one colorless energy card retreat cost. Diglett does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Mine, for one fighting energy card this move allows you to look at the top card of your opponent's deck and make your opponent shuffle their deck if you want.  Diglett's second move is called Mud-Slap, this move requires two energy cards, one each of fighting and colorless, and does 20 damage.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Diglett is a basic Pokemon card with a stage 1 evolution in Dugtrio, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, you'll more than likely want to use this card with that Pokemon.  However, since I haven't reviewed that card yet, I'll just act as though I plan on using this card without its evolution.  So, on its own this card probably shouldn't be used because it has a low hp and cannot do damage for only one energy card.  However, if you're in a pinch, I could definitely see putting one of these cards into a fighting type deck.  When in the active Pokemon spot you'll want to use whichever move you can.  Mine actually may do a fair amount of "damage" to your opponent if they have a card they really want on the top of their deck and you make them shuffle it into their deck.

Pokemon Card Rating: 
I would give this card a 2 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is a slightly below average basic Pokemon card from the X and Y set.  Although this card does have two moves and a low retreat cost, this card isn't average because of its low hp and the fact that neither of Diglett's two moves are anything above average.  Definitely look elsewhere first before trying to put this basic Pokemon card into your deck.

Gourgeist -- Pokemon X and Y Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:
Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Gourgeist from the Pokemon XY Card Set.  Gourgeist is a stage 1, psychic type Pokemon card, with an hp of 100.  It has a x2 weakness to darkness type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a two colorless energy retreat cost.  Gourgeist does not have an Ability but it does have two moves.  The first move that this card has is called Eerie Voice, this move requires one psychic energy card and allows you to put 2 damage counters on each of your opponent's Pokemon.  Gourgeist's second move is called Spirit Scream, this move requires two psychic energy cards and allows you to put damage counters on each active Pokemon, yours and your opponent's, until they each have 10 hp left on them.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Gourgeist is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Pumpkaboo into play (I reviewed Pumpkaboo from this set yesterday) and then evolve Pumpkaboo into Gourgeist.  If you read yesterday's review, you'll know that I thought Pumpkaboo was a very poor basic Pokemon card especially since its retreat cost was higher than the cost of its only attack which also doesn't do any damage.  Because Pumpkaboo isn't very good, you'll definitely want to evolve into Gourgeist on the bench.  All you need is one energy card on Gourgeist before moving it to the active Pokemon spot.  While in that spot, you can use Eerie Voice every turn unless you're facing a really high hp Pokemon like a Mega Evolution EX, then you should use Spirit Scream and almost knock it out.  I would definitely recommend using this card in not only psychic type decks but decks that spread damage around.  I would use a 2-2 line of Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist.

Pokemon Card Rating: 
I would give this card a 5 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an excellent stage 1 Pokemon card.  I really like everything about this card, it has an above average hp, and two great moves that not only do a lot of damage but are fast to use.  You should definitely include this in spread damage type decks and this Pokemon family would make a great addition to psychic type decks as well.  I see the Gourgeist card as a great way to prevent and even take down EX and Mega EX cards.  Overall, I would give this line a 4 out of 5 rating, even though Pumpkaboo was a 1 individually, I think overall this Pokemon family is awesome!

Pumpkaboo -- Pokemon X and Y Card Review

Pokemon Card Overview:

Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Pumpkaboo from the X and Y Pokemon Card Set.  Pumpkaboo is a basic, psychic type Pokemon card with an hp of 60.  It has a x2 weakness to darkness type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to fighting type Pokemon, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost. Pumpkaboo does not have an Ability and it only has one move.  The only move that this card has is called Confuse Ray, this move confuses the defending Pokemon for one psychic energy card.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Pumpkaboo is a basic Pokemon card with a stage 1 evolution in Gourgeist, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, you'll more than likely want to use this card with that Pokemon.  However, since I haven't reviewed that card yet, I'll just act as though I plan on using this card without its evolution.  So, on its own I would not use this card in a deck because it only has one move and the only move it has cannot do any damage, it only inflicts a special condition.  So if you want to use this card in a deck, make sure to use not more than one and use Confuse Ray whenever the card is in the active Pokemon spot.

Pokemon Card Rating: 
I would give this card a 1 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion, this is a very bad basic Pokemon card from the X and Y set.  Even though confusing the defending Pokemon is a good thing and a basic Pokemon card with an hp of 60 and an attack that requires only one energy card I am still giving this card a very low rating because Confuse Ray may not effect your opponent's Pokemon at all, and if you put this card into the active Pokemon spot, use Confuse Ray, and want to retreat Pumpkaboo, you'll have to add an additional energy card to it.  So my advice with this card would be to stay away from it unless you really want to use Gourgeist in your deck.

Pokemon Plasma Freeze Card Review: Cofagrigus

Card Overview:
Today's card is from the plasma freeze set. Cofagrigus is a stage 1, psychic type Pokemon card, with an hp of 100.  It is x2 weak to dark type Pokemon, no resistance type, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost.  Cofagrigus's Ability, Six Feet Under says you may knock out Cofagrigus during your turn if you'd like, if you choose to do this, you may put three damage counters on each of your opponent's Pokemon.  Cofagrigus has just one move called the slap of misfortune, this move requires three energy cards, two psychic and one colorless, and does 70 damage, plus if your opponent flips a coin during their next turn you can always treat it as tails.

Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Cofagrigus is a stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Yamask into play (I reviewed both Yamask cards from this set the past couple of days) and then evolve Yamask into Cofagrigus.  Like I mentioned earlier there are two Cofagrigus cards in the Plasma Freeze set, so please read tomorrow's review if you want to know which one I like better.  If you read my Yamask reviews, you'll know that I thought both Yamask card was about average, but if you're going to use this Cofagrigus card in your deck, you'll want to use the first Yamask card I reviewed from this set, the one that does spread damage.  That way, when you have some damage on your Pokemon, you can move Yamask into the active Pokemon spot, use its only move to get that damage off of your Pokemon, then right before Yamask is going to be knocked out, evolve it into Cofagrigus and use Cofagrigus's Ability to knock it out, and then do 30 damage to all of your opponent's benched Pokemon.  If you're building a spread damage type deck, this line of Yamask and Cofagrigus should definitely be in it.  I would suggest using a 2-2 line.

Pokemon Card Rating: 
I would give this card a 4 out of 5 rating.  In my opinion this is an above average stage 1 Pokemon card.  I really like this card for a spread damage type deck, if you use two Cofagrigus in your deck and use their Ability on each card, you could easily knock out some basic Pokemon without doing any other attacks.  So I would highly recommend this card for a spread damage type deck, even its only move does above average damage.  Overall, the line of Yamask (the first one) and Cofagrigus (the first one) from the Plasma Freeze set gets a 4 out of 5 rating, both work quite well together.
